By all accounts John Wooden was one of the best coaches of any sport in history. One of his most famous players tended to complain a lot. Coach Wooden said the following to him: “Things turn out the best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out.” He taught his players that complaining makes you weak. In all fields of endeavor, those who rise to the top are the ones who, rather than expend energy complaining, instead put all their energy toward achieving their goals, no matter how bleak things may look at any given time. More than anything, Wooden taught self-empowerment and self-mastery. For those of us living with chronic medical conditions, this approach to life can make a difference in our health and wellbeing.
