The purpose of this website, my book, and the Community Education course I teach at the College of Marin, is to teach people how to live a vibrant, meaningful life through the cultivation of self-empowerment and self-efficacy. In this weekly Q&A column, I post questions from students and from people who attend my presentations along with my answers.

Here is this week’s question:

QUESTION: Why Mindful Biology?

ANSWER: By learning very elementary physiology, you can begin to appreciate the selfless ways in which the body continuously does everything possible to keep you alive, regardless of the level of self-abuse or negligence. Students in my class get this in little doses each week.

This new appreciation for the way the body selflessly works round the clock to maintain homeostasis under extremely adverse conditions created by its owner leads to a precious relationship. It is a two-way relationship wherein the mind, feeling love and appreciation for the body, gives it the care it deserves. In turn, the body provides optimal care for the person. If you are not able to take my course in Kentfield, California, you can get that basic information and much more from Appendix A in my book.
