The purpose of this website, my book, and the Community Education course I teach at the College of Marin, is to teach people how to live a vibrant, meaningful life through the cultivation of self-empowerment and self-efficacy. In this weekly Q&A column, I post questions from students and from people who attend my presentations along with my answers.
Here is this week’s question:
QUESTION: The Mindful Biology you describe sounds interesting. Can you say more about it?
ANSWER: It includes the teaching of very elementary anatomy and physiology. By gaining a very basic understanding of the exquisite beauty of the way the body works to keep us alive, we are then able to gain a deep gratitude for the fact that no matter what disease, injury, or pathological condition we live with, and no matter how much abuse we inflict on the body, it continues to work tirelessly to do everything in its power to maintain homeostasis and keep us alive. We literally owe our lives to our bodies. When we meditate on that fact, we develop a loving partnership with the body, which immediately improves self-empowerment, self-efficacy, and wellbeing, all of which are extremely health-serving.
